What can I expect from a typical session?
The aim at every session is to make you feel relaxed and for you to thoroughly enjoy the experience.
Reflexology is not as intrusive as most other forms of massage. You only need to remove your shoes and socks or tights. If you wear leggings or trousers I need to be able to pull them up to the knee as I will massage the back of your calves at some stage during the session.
I'll begin by examining your feet and giving them a soothing wipe down. We will discuss your current state of health to help me gauge any reflex points that may require particular attention. You will be seated in a recliner which positions the body in a hammock-like position so that your head and feet are at similar heights. A soft blanket is provided to keep you warm.
The session itself will take approximately 45 minutes and I will make sure your feet are properly relaxed before beginning. I will cover all the main reflex points relating to the body's systems during the foot "massage". You can talk or preferably relax during the session and towards the end I will reinvigorate your feet with some enjoyable massage techniques.
You will be asked to drink some water after the session. This helps to flush through any toxins that may have been released. We will talk about what you experienced and I will give you any after care advice, if necessary.
When visiting your home, you may find it most comfortable to lie down on a bed during the treatment however I can usually bring along my reclining reflexology chair, providing there is somewhere to park my car close by.
The effects of reflexology are unique to each individual. Most people will experience a sense of well-being and relaxation, whereas some find it uplifting and energising. Occasionally, a client may have a healing reaction to a treatment and experience symptoms such as mild headaches, tiredness, rising emotions or have a more frequent need for the toilet. This can indicate that the body's own healing capabilities are at work and is seen by reflexologists as a positive sign, and should pass within 24-48 hours.
Clients may choose to have a course of treatments, especially if they are currently living with chronic conditions, whilst others have treatments simply to relax the mind and body to counteract stress as and when is necessary.
